A blog can be a great way for businesses to connect with customers over shared interests, or just a way for you to share your personal thoughts with others around you. Writing and maintaining a blog to a good standard takes a lot of work, so once the pieces are written and uploaded, they should be reaching as many people as possible.

Pinning your blog to Pinterest can help you to not only reach a wider audience, but also directly find the readers who are interested in your topics. Here are some tips on how and why to pin your blog:

Start by creating a separate Blog board on your PinterestScreen Shot 2015-03-25 at 10.24.52

This will act as an index for your blog posts. Pin all your blogs to this board in some kind of order – by date, topic or even location – so that you begin to build up an easily accessible base for navigating your different posts. That way, if someone finds your blog pinned in another place and wants to see more of your posts, there’ll be an easy way for them to find this index and navigate the rest of your content.

Take advantage of the visual element of Pinterest

A great thing about Pinterest is that you can draw readers in with attention-grabbing images or enticing photos from your own blog. Our minds respond quicker to a visual image than to text, so think about a publication that writes articles in your area of interest.

What type of images do they use? Try to follow their lead and pin your posts to an image that will engage a potential reader. If they like the writing and the image, they’re more likely to pin it to their own boards.

This post will be designed to fall in line with the most popular topics on Pinterest. These posts will act as more prominent signposts, pointing the way back to your Blog board and to all of your content.

Try and link the blog post to your own interests as much as possible so that the board is still cohesive. That way, even if your ‘main’ blog posts are a little bit off-centre when it comes to Pinterest focus, they’re less likely to get lost amongst the more popular topics.

Make sure that the link works both ways

Get a ‘Pin It’ button and put it on your main blogging page as well as on individual posts. This means the reader can do the hard work for you, and even if they find your blog via another route, they’re still likely to pin a post to their own Pinterest and thus share it with their friends.
